Several Zea mays cob fragments in Pit Feature 33 at a depth of 56-64 cm were recovered and associated with the Middle Woodland period (Conrad et al. 1984:445). This date is younger than expected, but it is close to dates (620-520 BP) obtained from three other Mississippian pit features at the site.
This date has been reported in the Canadian Archaeological Radiocarbon Database (CARD) (Morlan and Betts 1999).
